Welcome to the fifth Sunday in Lent! Today’s episode discusses music and the impact it has had on my spiritual journey. For me, music is a form of devotion. It is time spent worshipping the Lord. When I know I have a busy day where I can’t spend as much time on my morning devotions and prayers, I use my devotional playlist to kick start my day. The songs on my playlist have similar meaning and intent as my regular daily devotions and prayers. These songs, both the words and the instrumental sounds have a healing vibrational frequency. Music can calm a mood and set the mood because of these healing frequencies. I have playlists that help me set the mood for the day or situation and I have playlists that help this mama CTFD (calm the F*ck down) and it works! I have playlists that I use as a healing tool for my yoga nidra and yoga practices. I surround myself with the beautiful sounds of music as much as I can. I love country music because so many of the artists and musicians have messages from their own journeys within the lyrics. For example, Brooks and Dunn’s song ‘Believe’ talks about the words written in red. That song was powerful for me because when I reread the bible when I started this journey, those words in red are what I focused on. I wanted to hear and receive Jesus words and instructions for my life. Which reminds me of another time, early on my journey, one of my go to hymns (and still is today!) was ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’. The words of this hymn has helped me centre myself, and serves as a reminder that Jesus is our best friend. All we need to do is lean into his love. It is to this best friend that we need to carry our worries and find comfort in his presence in our lives. This is the best friend that will NEVER turn his back on you! That song, those words offer so much lightness and ease into our lives if we just let it! I encourage you to receive and experience music with the entirety of your body, mind and soul.
