Welcome to the second Sunday of Lent! The theme today from my lent devotional is ‘keep on moving’. When something wonderful happens or if I am so joyous in the space and time I kinda wanna pitch a tent and never leave that spot or that moment in time. I just wanna savour it and find some way to never let it go. There is nothing better than staying in good times, in peace and in calm. It is overwhelmingly tempting to just stay put. God wants us to enjoy life and savour those moments, however, staying in one place is no way to grow. God wants us to grow in his grace and we can only do that if we keep moving. The Gospel encourages us to keep moving and keep moving forward. Just as with negative things that occur in our lives it is important for us to let go and keep moving forward. Holding on to hurt, old arguements, grudges, unforgiveness and unhealthy habits keeps us stuck in unhealthy patterns which is the opposite of God’s graceful freedom which is found when we can unbind ourselves to the things that have a tight grip on our lives – both the positives and the negatives.
Lent is a time to purge, a time to free ourselves of all things that bind us. When we face the reality of God’s grace – we have the opportunity to realize that the present is what we need to focus on. Being present and looking forward to the future is the way to go. And that my friends is living on the narrow path and walking with the Lord.
Episode 4 discusses books and authors that have impacted my spiritual journey. These different books and authors have inspired me to keep on keeping on, down the narrow path. Having a growth mindset and learning from others has allowed me to faithfully know that it is by God’s grace that I continue to place one foot in front of the other.
The authors and books discussed in today’s episode are: ‘The Sermon on the Mount’ by Emmet Fox, ‘just this’ by Richard Rohr, ‘The Naked Now’ by Richard Rohr, ‘Invitation to Love’ by Thomas Keating, ‘Accidental Saints’ by Nadia Bolz-Weber, ‘Sacred Silence’ Phyllis Zagano (also the devotional inspiration for today), ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle, ‘Stillness Speaks’ by Eckhart Tolle and The Bible.
