Strengthen the Vertical – Be Still * Hold Peace

Wednesday the Fifth Week of Lent – Exodus 14:14 – Be Still, hold peace.

Throughout Lent, we have been focusing on helpful skills that encourage us to strengthen our verticals.  To connect with God, to connect with the Spirit of God within us, to look to the cross, to add a pause, to be still and hold peace and trust in God.

Trouble is, we trip over our own egos, our own agendas and think we can do things on our own.  And where we find ourselves is in a revolving door.  In any situation (especially difficult situations) it takes lots of courage to ask for help, to talk about our feelings, to be vulnerable and let others in, to let God in.

Ask yourself this question: is it easier to listen to the negative whispers in your head, or trust in God?  Do you have trust in sending your situations up in prayer to the Lord?  Discouragement in prayer, discouragement in faith is a very real temptation.  Our part is to pray and believe.  Where it falls apart for most people is not believing that God will take care of our needs.  This is where we need a perspective change, to adopt an attitude of trust. We must deeply believe that God will take care of our needs.

Lent is a time for prayer and reconciliation. To work on our trust muscles, to understand and reconcile ourselves and our past as we look to the cross.  The best way to build trust muscles is to build that connection with God.  Having a personal relationship, spending time in prayer and silence strengthens the connection, strengthens our belief, changes our perspective, softens our gaze which takes away the heaviness of what we carry with us.

We are called to let go of the heaviness and recognize the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit who is there to help us and nudge us towards a solid connection with God.  To know and trust that when things happen, when the chaos or trouble or temptations enter our lives on the horizontal, we can always create the space for God.

I have wisely learned the value of Exodus 14:14 and have used it often! I have trusted that scripture and trusted that as I pray – as I sit in silence, God is working things out in my favour, my job is to be still, hold peace and believe ❤
