The First Day of the Rest of My Life

This morning I was out for a walk, it was a heavy frost even though it is April 2. At this time of year we should be past frost or at least the heaviness of it!  Regardless, it is still beautiful and brings joy to my heart and a smile to my face.

Taking time to appreciate the nuances of nature can help us hit that reset button, let go of what happened yesterday and live for this beautiful moment.  That is just what I did this morning.  I went for a long walk than sat on my back deck taking in the beauty of the frost.  Sitting in silence and solitude helped recharge me and appreciate the moment I was in.  The sun was shining the birds were chirping the frost was sparkling and although it was minus 17 Celsius I wanted to linger in that peaceful moment as long as my chin and cheeks could bare it!

I went into the house settled into work at my computer and I was looking for a document.  In my list of files I found something I had wrote back on September 8, 2015, that caught my eye.  It was titled “The first day of the rest of my life”.  As I read it I lol’d and said to myself, ‘I have had a few first days of the rest of my life’.

But it is true, everyday is a new day.   The worries, the stresses of yesterday do not need to carry forward into today.  We allow ourselves to be weighted down; we put unreasonable expectations on ourselves.  We over populate our lives and our schedules forgetting our soul needs to be nurtured.  It gets harder to smile and be pleasant in this weighted down state that we knowingly walked ourselves into.  Our bodies become tired and sore.  In a rushed busy stressed environment eating properly becomes more difficult.   It is a circular cycle, but it can be reset to allow a new positive pattern to emerge.

Take time to nourish your body and sit in solitude.  Maybe you are not a sparkling frost, rosy cheeks and chin on an April morning kind of a person, but I do encourage you to find that peaceful place that God speaks to you.  Be still and know you are surrounded by God’s love no matter what is going on in your life.  Absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of God and how he wants to care for you.  Let go and let God!  All is forgiven and you can joyfully smile when you hit the reset button and say: This is the first day of the rest of my life.

Peacefully yours in love ❤
