It Gets Me Every Time!

Those closest to me know how songs get me!  Music is such a big part of my life and my spiritual journey.  Many know specifically how the hymn ‘How Great Thou Art’ gets me every time.  Today was no different!

This morning, as I was enjoying my online church service in my backyard the final hymn was ‘How Great Thou Art’.  My neighbours heard my less than spectacular voice singing while I heard Grandma Ruthie hitting those high notes so exquisitely.  This song has a way of overcoming me and takes me back to the old country church built by our ancestors where I am sitting next to Grandma Ruthie in that church pew in complete awe and wonder as she hits those high notes.  She had such a beautiful voice and seemed to love to sing.  As a kid I just took in the memory, the music and surroundings as a memorable energetic spiritual rhythm which I still cherish to this very day.

As I have deepened my spirituality it is more than the memory of a beautiful voice with the presence of God it is also the words that stir my heart and takes me back to that old country church on that old dirt road.  To a simpler life, a life filled with peace and stillness.  Today those lyrics have a way of healing my inner body as I breathe them in.  The words have a way of energizing my soul purpose.  As I breathe in those words and allow the Holy Spirit to fill me up I am able to surrender all that is and find that freedom and rhythm to live heaven and earth – here and now! To be energized by the awe and wonder that surrounds me in this very moment!

Being aware and receptive to the grace of God is how you can energize your spiritual connectedness and live heaven on earth, right here! Right now!  It is available, it is an open invitation for all.  I encourage you to take time to listen to the song ‘How Great Thou Art’, breathe in the lyrics body, mind and soul.  Be receptive to what stirs your heart.  Let the words heal you and lead you as it has me.

How Great Thou Art – written by Stuart Hine

Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
