Strengthening the Vertical – Body Awareness

Sunday the First week of Lent – Body Awareness

Today I will guide you through a short body awareness meditation exercise.

It is important to understand that our physical and emotional bodies have limits and limitations.  When our weaknesses are tweaked, it can pull us off our vertical.  As we bring our mindfulness and our awareness to our physical and emotional bodies, we can find balance within and without.  Being mindful is paying attention, on purpose in the present moment without analyzing or figuring things out, just noticing.

When we bring our awareness to the present moment, we are creating space for rest and perspective change.  Our posture is content and we are within a blanket of sweet peace as we let go of things that overwhelm us, cause us anxiety or chronic pain and tension which, very often have us make poor choices (or reactions) on the horizontal.

Mindful moments allow our bodies and minds to create a healthy pause, a place of repentance, reflection and remembrance.  This very pause is how we strengthen the vertical.  It allows us to make that healthy choice to look to the cross.  Letting go and letting God is the wisdom pause that brings about balance within the body, mind and soul.

Isaiah 32:17

The result of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.
