Strengthening the Vertical – Breathwork and Movement

Sunday the Second Week of Lent – Breathwork and Movement

Earlier this week we looked at building daily routines for silence and solitude to develop the right heart attitude.  Today I will guide you through a breathwork and movement exercise.  As we work to develop the right heart attitude, it is helpful to build a daily routine where we connect with the inner body.  Chair yoga is a fantastic way to connect with the inner body.

This chair yoga practice will help our bodies slow down and receive nourishment as we connect the movement of the body with the breath as it moves through the physical body.  Bringing mindfulness and our noticing skills to this practice we can bring vitality to the entire body.  When our body is in this steady state, when we can pay attention on purpose in the present moment, we can better manage the distractions and disturbances on the horizontal.  Daily practices such as this chair yoga class encourages connection with the inner body.  The more we develop healthy connection routines, we are strengthening our ability to develop that right heart attitude and remain attached to the goodness that God has to offer us.

As we develop that right heart attitude, we are finding healthy ways to live, love and connect.  Slowing down, mindfully and intentionally to nourish our body, mind and soul. And when we can do that, we are strengthening our vertical!

A beautiful passage that helps me keep the right heart attitude:

Philippians 2:1-4

If you find any comfort from being in the Anointed, if His love brings you some encouragement, if you experience true companionship with the Spirit, if His tenderness and mercy fill your heart; then brothers and sisters, here is one thing that would complete my joy – come together as one in mind and spirit and purpose, sharing in the same love.  Don’t let selfishness and prideful agendas take over.  Embrace true humility and lift your heads to extend love to others. Get beyond yourselves and protecting your own interests; be sincere and secure your neighbours’ interest first.

Enjoy this chair yoga practice ❤
